We have two in Bali. Lacalita Canggu is at Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.68, Canggu, a short walk from Batu Bolong beach. Lacalita Seminyak (formerly Lacalaca) is at Jl. Drupadi No.1, Basangkasa, Seminyak.
What are your opening hours?
Lacalita Canggu is open daily from 12pm to midnight, with last food orders at 11:30pm. Lacalita Seminyak is open daily from 11am to 11pm, with last food orders at 10:30pm. Our lunch menu of burritos and tortas runs until 4pm.
Do I need to book?
Walk-ins are always welcome. For groups, or for Taco Tuesday and Saturday nights, we recommend booking a table at lacalitabali.com/booking or messaging the venue on WhatsApp.
Can you take large groups?
Yes, we love a party. Depending on the size of your group, a set or limited menu can make for a smoother night. For group enquiries, message the venue on WhatsApp or email us.
Are kids welcome?
Yes. We have a kids' menu and high chairs.
Is there parking?
Scooter parking is available at both restaurants, and we offer valet parking for cars.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, QRIS, Visa, Mastercard and Amex (Amex carries a 5% fee).
What kind of Mexican food do you serve?
Modern Mexican, made from scratch in Bali. Our corn tortillas are made fresh every day from corn we nixtamalize in-house. We slow-cook our meats, from 12-hour al pastor pork shoulder to beef cheek braised in red mole and cerveza. We serve three rich moles (amarillo, verde and rojo) with depth and complexity that can only be achieved with traditional Mexican spices and dried chilies. Our many salsas are made daily from fresh local produce and herbs that bring a zing to every dish. The menu goes well beyond tacos: ceviche, moles, fajitas and sharing tables, plus burritos and tortas at lunch.
Do you make your own tortillas?
The key to a great taco begins with a great tortilla. Our corn tortillas are made in-house from local corn that we nixtamalize ourselves (the ancient artisanal process of cooking corn in limewater before grinding it into dough), which we then blend with imported masa harina. We're always experimenting with different corn varieties as we seek the ultimate tortilla! It takes time and patience, but it's the difference you taste in every taco. They're also naturally gluten-free.
I've never been. What should I order?
Start with the Beef Cheek Slider and a round of Baja Fish tacos, then the Pollo Mole Amarillo. Finish with the Tres Leches. To drink, the Lacalaca is Bali's original spicy margarita, and a Margarita Flight lets you try three. Or bring friends and order the Laca Table, a sharing feast of our favourites.
Is the menu the same at both restaurants?
Yes. Lacalita Canggu and Lacalita Seminyak serve the same food and cocktail menus. See the full menu at lacalitabali.com/menu.
Do you have gluten-free options?
Yes. Most of our menu is gluten-free or has a gluten-free option, and our corn tortillas are gluten-free and made fresh daily. Burritos can be ordered "naked" as a gluten-free bowl.
Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?
Yes. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are marked on the menu, from Jackfruit Carnitas tacos to roast veg and quinoa. The Veg Table is a vegetarian sharing feast.
What's your tequila and mezcal like?
We pour some of Mexico's finest 100% agave tequilas and mezcals, neat, in flights, or in our margaritas, which are made with fresh local fruit and herbs. Every Saturday is Agave Night: 2-for-1 tequila and mezcal shots and flights.
Can I come to Lacalita just for drinks?
Yes. Lacalita is as much a bar as a restaurant, and plenty of people come just for cocktails and the eclectic music. Our cocktails are made with quality imported spirits and fresh local fruit and herbs. Our cult classic is the Lacalaca margarita: 100% agave tequila infused with fresh local jalapeños for at least 14 days, shaken with starfruit and lime. Many have tried to copy it; nobody makes it quite like we do. Order a Margarita Flight to try three, or work your way through our tequila and mezcal list.
Do you serve lunch?
Yes. Our lunch menu of burritos and Mexico City-style tortas is served until 4pm, alongside the full menu.
What is Taco Tuesday?
Every Tuesday, all day, tacos are 35K at both restaurants, with a margarita special to go with them. It's our busiest night, so book ahead.
What is Agave Night?
Every Saturday night we pour 2-for-1 tequila and mezcal shots and flights. It's the best way to explore our agave list.
Do you cater events?
Yes. We bring the party to you with our taco cart and bar service, for weddings, villa parties and private events across Bali. Send an enquiry through our Catering page or message us on WhatsApp.
Do you deliver?
Yes. We deliver free of charge in our local area: contact the venue on WhatsApp to order. You'll also find us on GoFood and GrabFood.
Who is behind Lacalita?
Lacalita was founded by Will Lovejoy, an Australian who has called Bali home since 2011. He opened Lacalaca in Seminyak on 18 May 2012, Bali's first modern Mexican restaurant, followed by Lacalita on Batu Bolong in Canggu in October 2014.
Is Lacalita the same as Lacalaca?
Yes. Lacalaca opened in Seminyak in 2012 and Lacalita followed in Canggu in 2014: same founder, same kitchen philosophy. As we came out of Covid, we brought both restaurants under one name, Lacalita. Lacalaca lives on in our signature spicy margarita.
How long has Lacalita been in Canggu?
Since October 2014. Lacalita was one of the first casual dining spots on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, well before Canggu became one of Bali's busiest food streets.
What makes Lacalita different?
We're passionate about traditional Mexican ingredients and how you use them. Toasted dried chilies such as pasilla, ancho, guajillo and arbol, along with achiote paste, give depth, colour and complexity to our salsas, moles and adobos without the straight-up heat you get from fresh habanero or jalapeño. We also love the freedom to explore influences, ingredients and techniques from the region and beyond, with dishes like shimeji mushrooms with chili garlic crunch, a cheeseburger taco, ahi poke, and a kale salad with parmesan, roasted peanuts and an Asian dressing that has surprised and delighted many.
Is Lacalita sustainable?
We work hard at keeping waste out of landfill. All our organic matter is composted, even bones and leftovers, and everything that can be recycled is. Separating our waste this way has cut Lacalita's landfill waste by 70%.
